  • About Golden Saye

Golden Saye is Spenwood’s Guernsey milk cousin – a hard, Guernsey cow’s milk cheese made to the same recipe as Spenwood, that is matured for 4 months with a natural rind. The cheese is mildly savoury, toothsome and moreish with a subtle umami tang and a lovely gentle caramel sweetness to the finish. The rind closely resembles that of Spenwood, a greyish white rind that beautifully contrasts the golden paste underneath it.

About Our Supplier

Village Maid Cheese was started by Anne Wigmore in 1986 after she had been working for the National Institute for Research in Dairying in Shinfield for 10 years, initially in the microbiological department, and then learning her craft of cheese making in their research dairy. Today, with husband Andy, her family and hard-working staff, they are continuing to produce award-winning artisan cheeses.

Additional Information

All our products come directly from our shop based in the small village of Cartmel, just outside the Lake District national park. Our shop is temperature controlled between 12-14 degrees to allow maturation of all of our cheeses.

Every single cheese on this website has been hand-picked and tasted by our in-house cheese experts to ensure that they are truly special – we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
